Guilty Gear dev team is finally ready to consider the franchise’s “next development,” according to Strive producer Ken Miyauchi

With Guilty Gear Strive entering its fifth year, the devs are now at the stage where they can start considering "new developments" in the series.

With the successful release of Guilty Gear Strive 2.0, Arc System Works seems more than ready to move the franchise forwardIn an interview with Famitsu, producer Ken Miyauchi discussed plans to continue the franchise and explore what happens after the 2025 Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers anime.

Guilty Gear Strive has now entered its fifth year, and with the release of Ver. 2.00, I believe we’ve finally reached the stage where we can start thinking about the series’ next steps. We will continue the Guilty Gear series, and personally, I’m eager to see a new story unfold. I hope to deliver developments that connect with the story so far, including the events depicted in the Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers anime. I’d be delighted if you would enjoy the series, including these upcoming developments.”

While moving the franchise forward consists of several steps, including gameplay tweaks and graphical improvements for its fighting games, Miyauchi says he is personally eager to move Guilty Gear’s story forward.

Unlike its Arcade mode, where bite-sized stories of individual characters are connected via a series of fights, Guilty Gear Strive’s Story mode includes nine watchable main chapters (plus one side chapter) that focus on the story of Sol Badguy and a handful of his companions. Though the main story was able to showcase the game’s beautiful cel-shaded graphics, the lack of interactivity made some players feel like they were watching an anime rather than playing a game.

Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, on the other hand, is an eight-episode anime series that takes place after the events of the main campaign but before the game’s fourth season. It follows a new character, Unika, and her connection to the rest of the main cast.

The details of Guilty Gear’s future looks to be tightly under wraps for now, but until the developers decide to unveil what they(re cooking up, Miyauchi hopes fans will continue to enjoy the franchise.

Guilty Gear Strive is available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Windows (Steam), Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and arcades.
