Following massive support for the indie high school visual novel Girlfailure ArtClub and numerous requests from overseas fans for a translated version, the game’s official X account has confirmed that translators have been recruited for English, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese localizations. The developers are aiming for a release sometime next year.
Girlfailure ArtClub follows the story of a teenage boy who mistakenly ends up enrolling in his high school’s art club. As the protagonist, you’ll spend your days in the club surrounded by four quirky otaku girls looking for your attention. A self-funded project by Japanese writer, author, and VTuber Uka Todoki, Girlfailure ArtClub has since grown into something bigger. Instead of trying to cut costs, Todoki and publisher Artodria have launched an official development blog on Pixiv Fanbox to crowdfund and expand the game’s content, encouraged by the game’s positive response on social media.
Todoki previously stated that while several features were in the works (including a localized release), it would take an estimated budget of several million yen for everything to be developed. A portion of that goal seems to have been met, as the team is currently in the process of hiring translators for different languages. Todoki’s statement also included talks with international voice actor agencies, though there have not been any updates on that front yet.
Girlfailure Artclub is set to release sometime next year for PC (Steam).
