Cyberpunk criminal investigation game There is NO PLAN B announced for Steam

Korean indie developer SUPERWAVE Studio published the Steam store page for There is NO PLAN B on April 17. The upcoming title will be available in English, Korean, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

There is No Plan B is a narrative adventure game in which you assume the role of a private detective investigating a variety of criminal cases. The game is set in the cyberpunk world of Soul City in the year 2070, which is ruled by a megacorp called Trinity Inc. The protagonist, B, is a private eye who lives a hikikomori lifestyle. After an “unfortunate incident,” B is employed as a subcontractor by the Soul City Police Department (SCPD). B investigates assigned crime scenes independently and arrests suspects.

As a hikikomori, B never leaves home and thus investigates crime scenes remotely using futuristic technology such as AI robots that look for clues left by culprits. Judging from the in-game screenshots that have been released so far, it appears that several filters can be used during the investigation of crime scenes. For example, by using the footprint filter, footprints left at the crime scene will become detectable, and B will use these filters to search for traces of the suspect at the crime scene. Once you find the culprit, you can talk to them to get more information and use the emergency arrest system to settle the case.

Additionally, There is No Plan B will feature unique partner characters who help B analyze evidence during investigations. The cast can be invited to dinner parties and interacted with. The cyberpunk environments of Soul City and the crime scenes are depicted in 3D, while character sprites are animated in 2D, making for a unique combination.

There is no Plan B is being produced by the South Korean indie developer SUPERWAVE Studio, who have previously released the mystery adventure game The Island: Into the Mist. According to the studio’s official website, their latest title is being developed by a team of about five people.

There is no Plan B will feature a system whereby game progression depends on the player’s choices and relationships with other characters. It will include about 12 to 20 hours of play time, with console releases in consideration for the future.

As an aside, There is no Plan B’s OST is being produced by KARUT, who has worked on some of Blue Archive’s music.

There is no Plan B is currently in development for the PC (Steam).
