Yell swear words at a witch in this atmospheric indie horror game

Ever wondered what you would do if you were hallucinating witches while in the Kazakh Steppes? Me neither, but you will soon be able to find out thanks to Beshbarmak Games’ unusual psychological horror game F*ck You Witch. The game is set to be released for PC (Steam) in March 2024. The interface and subtitles are available in ten languages, with full audio support for English and Russian.

Set in the Kazakh Steppes, a vast region of open grassland that covers parts of Kazakhstan and Russia, you play as a guy whose best friend has just confessed her love for him. On top of that, you are suffering from strange hallucinations, including one of a creepy witch, that are taking over your life. The solution to tackling the witch? Grab your mic and learn to swear at her in Russian. If that sounds too difficult or your parents are in the room, then you can hurl your obscenities by typing instead.

Despite its brash title suggesting otherwise, it seems that this indie game will allow you to explore cultural aspects too. The developer seems to have named themselves after beshbarmak, which is a dish developed by nomads in Central Asia that is also one of the main national dishes of Kazakhstan. Part of the game will involve learning to cook this boiled meat and noodle dish. Other non-horror activities described in the game’s humorous description will include learning about camels, saddling horses, taking a crash course in sewing, and even discussing philosophy with other characters.

As shown in the screenshots, it seems that you will get to explore several different atmospheric environments including yurts and an old Soviet-era apartment. The game describes itself as a walking sim with point-and-click adventure game-style mechanics, allowing you to examine and interact with objects.

Overall, F*ck You Witch looks like quirky game with an unusual setting and concept- with its combination of horror and humor calling to mind cult Japanese horror game Deadly Premonition. It promises an interesting storyline playable in around 3 hours.

F*ck You Witch is scheduled to be released for PC (Steam) in March.
