The Calisto Protocol developer FuRyu has announced the brand-new title ANOMALITH, slated for release on October 29 for PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. While FuRyu is known for its JRPGs, the developer is venturing into the TPS genre with this release.

ANOMALITH is a survival horror shooter set in a nostalgic yet eerie Japan where the Showa era didn’t end when it was historically supposed to. Anomaly Zones, a kind of natural calamity, suddenly start occurring sporadically across the country. After her friend goes missing in an Anomaly Zone, the protagonist, a girl called Reona Minazuki, becomes a “Diver” for a government-backed agency known as the Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office. On her first dive into an Anomaly Zone, Reona awakens to unique powers, while her fellow Divers all fall victim to anomalies. As the sole survivor, she heads deep into the abyss of Anomaly Zones, searching for her friend, the origin of Anomaly Zones, and the secret behind her powers.
With a game field designed after liminal spaces and The Backrooms creepypasta, ANOMALITH aims to evoke a chilling unease rather than classic horror, according to producer Kidokoro Gai. The came cycle revolves around a straightforward cycle of venturing into Anomaly Zones – where the exploration and combat happens – and returning to base. You’ll also be collecting ammunition and Anomalous Objects – resources used to develop and upgrade your weapons before going on your next dive.

Combat revolves around third-person gun action, with a UI and UX designed to feel familiar for the genre. Reona’s special Anomalization Skills add further depth to the action, allowing the use of parrying, homing missiles, decoys and other support skills. Some abilities are designed to help you power your way through if you get surrounded. Inventory management will also be an important factor, according to the producer, as so you’ll have to think well about which items to keep and which to discard.
As you defeat enemies and collect Anomalous Objects, your investigation report will be updated with new information, gradually revealing the game’s lore.
ANOMALITH also allows for extensive gun and outfit customization, with the possibility of choosing costumes that only affect appearance without changing specs.

FuRyu’s new TPS comes with a pretty star-studded dev team too, with bishojo game writer and novelist Romeo Tanaka in charge of the scenario, and Elden Ring and Dark Souls III composer Yuka Kitamura on the soundtrack. The character designs were provided by dark fantasy illustrator MON.
ANOMALITH is set to launch on October 29 for PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
