Fans of Papers, Please who are looking for a similar title with an otaku twist might want to check out Neolavi’s upcoming point-and-click adventure game Do You Want To Know Your Oshi?. As a closet otaku turned security guard for the VTuber agency Stellaria, your job is to screen visitors and protect your oshi, Hoshina Luna.
Gameplay revolves around cross-referencing visitors’ documents against the rules set for the day. While the first few days might only have you checking the validity of entry passes, succeeding days will pile on more requirements that need to be met. These include voice authentication, scanning belongings with an X-ray device, and even preventing forced entry attempts.
If you run into anything suspicious, you can interrogate the visitor at hand. Some visitors will try to explain the discrepancies in their documents, and it’s up to you whether to let them in or kick them out. Much like in Papers, Please, your decisions affect the game’s events and ending.
As you perform your duties as a security guard, the plot slowly starts to unfold. Stellaria, contrary to its outward appearance, isn’t as vibrant and perfect as it appears to be. A dark vibe hangs over the agency, with the game’s trailer even showing a visitor dying in the lobby. Hoshina Luna also doesn’t act the same off-screen as she does during her streams. The smile she usually shows her viewers is replaced with an indifferent gaze. With the façade slowly crumbling, you start to wonder if following the rules will really protect your oshi.
