Since the Switch 2’s backwards compatibility is a big selling point of the console, Nintendo has created a website that makes it easier to tell how compatible Switch games are on the new hardware. Aptly titled “Nintendo Switch 2 Compatibility Information,” checking your compatibility is as easy as typing down your favorite Switch game in the search bar and pressing “Enter.”

The website checks the compatibility for both physical and digital editions of existing software. While most Switch games generally work fine on the Switch 2, others currently aren’t compatible due to hardware or software limitations. All versions of 2018’s Nintendo Labo may work on the Switch 2, according to the website, but the cardboard peripherals that come bundled with the games only fit the Nintendo Switch. Likewise, titles like NieR: Automata (which was released for the Switch in October 2022) are not compatible with the Switch 2 due to problems with game progression.

Of course, the easiest way to check if a Switch game is compatible with the Switch 2 is to input the title that you’re searching for yourself. This webpage would have been invaluable back when the Switch 2 was released, but perhaps Nintendo needed time to build its growing Switch database before launching it.
