South Korean studio Meisomi has released a Steam demo for its upcoming psychological horror title Below Lethe. Inspired by Greek mythology, the game puts players in the role of Dikaion, an entity who is able to see the memories of every person a deceased soul once knew.
Once a person dies and crosses the river of forgetfulness, Lethe, they face trial in the Underworld, where they must testify to prove they led a virtuous life. However, their testimony alone is not enough. As Dikaion, your duty is to piece together the lives of the dead and prove their guilt before the Underworld’s jury. Three judges weigh the deceased’s testimony of their life against the truths you uncover, whereupon they decide the fate of their soul.

The story revolves around a peculiar trial. Just as a verdict is about to be passed on a departed soul, one of the judges asks for the trial to be reopened. As the case resumes, new hidden truths about the accused begin to arise, overturning your previous assumptions. At the end of the trial, you are faced with a final choice that leads to one of two possible endings.
Below Lethe has you reconstructing events from clues found throughout memories of those who knew the deceased in life. From determining who was present to finding out the order in which events took place, each piece of information contributes to the accused’s guilt or innocence. The Steam page hints that even if you find out the truth, there may not be an easy answer to choose when it comes to passing judgement.
Below Lethe is currently in development for Windows (Steam). A demo is out now,
