Final Fantasy 16 update shortens petting “cooldown time” so that you can show Torgal more love

Square Enix released update 1.31 for Final Fantasy XVI on April 17. Among various new features and improvements, the update makes it easier to pet Torgal to your heart’s content.

The release of the long-awaited Final Fantasy XVI expansion “The Rising Tide” is being accompanied by a major update available to users regardless of whether they opt to purchase the DLC or not. This update introduces useful QOL improvements such as the “Quick Complete” function, which gives players the option to warp directly to a quest-giver upon completing a quest’s final objective, and the ability to save up to 5 skill presets to switch between.

There was one peculiar adjustment made in the update, however – the conditions for when Torgal, Clive’s loyal companion, can be petted have been adjusted, and the time that needs to pass before you can pet him again has been shortened.

Although the details of the changes have not been disclosed, it may be that the update allows you to pet Torgal in places where it was not possible before due to terrain or other factors. In addition, the “cooldown” for consecutive petting seems to have been shortened. Although a small change, the interval between strokes has become slightly shorter than before, making seamless, “continuous stroking” possible. Incidentally, the FFXVI trophy “You Can Pet the Dog” can be earned by interacting with Torgal five times.

Speaking of Torgal-related updates, the FFXVI update 1.21 from December last year introduced the Inner Voice feature, which unexpectedly allowed players to see Torgal’s feelings towards each of the main characters, both when he was a cub and after he became a full-grown wolf.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PS5, with a PC port currently in progress.
