Atelier Ryza AI Chat RPG devs issue warning against players “exploiting loopholes to make the chatbot give explicit responses” and “reverse engineering assets”

Spiral AI recently issued a statement responding to the asset extraction and "prompt injection" issue within the game.

SpiralAI has provided a statement regarding the inappropriate use of assets from the recently released Atelier RyzaChat: AI Your Midsummer Dream Story with AI Ryza (unofficial translation). While the AI chat RPG allows players to interact and converse with Reisalin “Ryza” Stout in a story-driven RPG and chat mode, some of them have been a bit too “free” with how they experience the game. Specifically, multiple instances of users manipulating the content of their messages and extracting the game’s assets in ways that breach the terms of service have recently been spotted across social media.

Starting with message manipulation, Spiral AI has confirmed instances of
“prompt injection,” in which players intentionally manipulate the content of their messages to force Ryza to provide responses that would normally be restricted. These include content that is out of character, explicit, or harmful. This is in violation of Article 8, Section 1 of the terms of service, which prohibits infringement on IP rights through acts such as circumventing technical restrictions and using generated messages for obscene purposes.

When it comes to asset extraction, Spiral AI states that some users have extracted game files (such as character assets and voice clips) for content creation and other purposes. This is also in violation of the terms of service, as they constitute reverse engineering.

Others have gone so far as to create images and videos of Ryza that look similar to those found in-game. Spiral AI suspects that these were generated by AI, and confirms that none of them were created by the developers.

In addition to asking people to review the terms of service and refrain from prohibited actions, Spiral AI plans to take appropriate action in coordination with the relevant authorities against serious cases of malicious activity.

RyzaChat: AI Your Midsummer Dream Story with AI Ryza is available in Japan for iOS and Android. A global version of the game, featuring English, Brazilian Portugese, Indonesian, Hindi and Traditional Chinese support, is set to come at a later date.
