Astro Bot developers excited for Naughty Dog’s new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
It was a big surprise when Astro Bot won the Game of The Year award at The Game Awards 2024 earlier this December. But just as Team Asobi was flabbergasted about their game winning, they were shocked at the unveiling of another PlayStation Studios production, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. In an interview with Famitsu, multiple Team Asobi members revealed their love for Naughty Dog’s games and talked about their eager anticipation of their sister PlayStation development studio’s newest title.
According to Astro Bot Director and Producer Nicolas Doucet, Team Asobi had no idea that Naughty Dog would be announcing their new IP at The Game Awards 2024. This momentarily caused the team to shift from their roles as game developers to those of players eagerly anticipating a new game. Doucet had to eventually switch back gears to being a developer once Astro Bot won the Game of The Year award, but he mentions that the last 10 minutes of The Game Awards 2024 were “perfect for the future of PlayStation.”
Astro Bot Lead Sound Designer Junko Sano and Lead Game Designer Hiroaki Yatoku expressed similar reactions, with Yatoku mentioning he had a chance to talk with some developers from Naughty Dog once the awards show was over:
“After the event, I had a chance to talk with members of Naughty Dog. I heard that when Astro Bot was selected as Game of the Year, they were also happy and cheered. Once again, I felt the strength of the bond within PlayStation Studios.”
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s trailer was the final Game Awards 2024 announcement before the much-anticipated Game of The Year award ceremony. Set years into the future, the game follows Jordan A. Mun – a bounty hunter stranded on the planet Sempiria. After losing communication with the outside universe hundreds of years ago, Jordan is eager to escape the orbit of the planet that no one in 600 years has been able to leave.
With its 80s vibe, anime references, and product placements, very little is known about Naughty Dog’s new IP. This makes sense, considering Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet does not have a release date yet and is still currently in development. Hopefully Jordan and her companions will be able to make cameos in another Astro Bot title once the game is out.
