Steam game in which you do Nothing releases to rave reviews

Pixelatto released their title Nothing on January 11 for the PC (Steam). In the free-to-play game, you do nothing, which has been very well received by players.

In Nothing, the goal is not to do anything. The game opens with the message “Press any key to start doing Nothing,” and pressing a key will start off a counter that times how long you have been idle. If you move your mouse or do anything on your PC, this counts as doing something, so you lose the game. You can keep replaying and trying to improve at doing nothing.

Even though it’s just a game that measures time spent doing nothing, it’s been gathering praise on Steam. At the time of writing, Nothing has a Very Positive status, with 94% out of 2,090 reviews being positive. Aside from people simply recognizing the humor in the game’s concept, some users mention the game being handy for measuring how long they sleep, with others using it for therapy, and even to practice Zen. It seems like everyone is finding a unique value in this unusual game.

Nothing has no art or animations or well, anything. However, it’s free to play, has a unique theme, and  delivers exactly what it promises. Considering it this way, it’s no surprise that the game’s being well received. It also has a significant number of concurrent players, peaking at 354 in the past 24 hours (SteamDB).

Unsurprisingly, the Steam community has vandalized Nothing’s user-defined tags, with “Hentai,” “Psychological Horror,” “Nudity” and an ironic “Story Rich” displaying right at the top. If you go into Nothing expecting any of these, you will likely be disappointed.

As an aside, Nothing’s developer Pixelatto has previously released Reventure, an adventure game with 100 different endings. Two days after the launch of Nothing, they amusingly released Something, a game in which you have to keep doing something, for $99.99.
