Find purrfect kitties hidden in Japanese landscapes in this cute and casual indie

Indie developer Travellin Cats announced their latest game Cats Hidden in Japan, set to release in 2024. The release will join a series of Where’s Waldo-style cat finding games set in detailed locations all over the world. It will be available on Steam (PC)

Cats Hidden in Japan is a point and click game in which players must find 100 cute kitties hidden within detailed line drawings. These hand drawn illustrations are based on typical Japanese landscapes and feature elements such as Japanese castles, five-story pagodas, shrine gates, and cranes flying past Mount Fuji. Some of the buildings appear to be based on Kabuki theaters and Shirakawa-go’s thatched, gassho-style houses

Developer Travellin Cats specializes in creating these cat-finding games, beginning with Cats Hidden in Paris, which was released for free in July 2023. Since then, they have added to the series with games set in Italy and Bali. The series has received an Overwhelmingly Positive rating from reviewers on Steam, with many players praising the games for being cute and relaxing.

For Christmas, the developer has released the free-to-play Cats Hidden in Jingle Jam, a collaboration with the game-themed charity event Jingle Jam 2023. Other previous installments of the series are available on Steam either for free or less than a dollar. There is also a series bundle that is currently on sale at 28% off. From the screenshots it seems that Cats Hidden in Japan will have finer, more detailed line drawings with improved image quality.

Cats Hidden in Japan is scheduled to release on PC (Steam) in 2024.
