Fan awaits Pikmin 4 by drawing Pikmin every day until release

A Twitter user has taken on the unique challenge of drawing one Pikmin every day—and adding each one to the same image—until the release of Pikmin 4. Will he be able to keep going right up until the game finally hits shelves?

Pikmin 4 is the latest title in the Pikmin series. Players land on a mysterious planet and go on an adventure with the aid of strange creatures known as Pikmin. Pikmin 4 adds the new Ice Pikmin, and there is also a new dog-like companion called Oatchi.

We first learned about the existence of Pikmin 4 in a 2015 interview that Eurogamer held with Shigeru Miyamoto. During the interview, Miyamoto stated, “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development,” and that “It’s actually very close to completion.” However, no further information about the game was revealed until it finally received an official announcement in September 2022, seven years later. Earlier this year, Nintendo at long last announced the release date for the game: July 21.

In eager anticipation of the impending release, Twitter user @Heronin868 began a challenge to draw one Pikmin every day. He began on February 9, when the release date was announced, and has continued to add a new Pikmin to his initial image daily.

There are still more than 150 days until Pikmin 4 is released, but @Heronin868’s image is already looking pretty busy with nine Pikmin. He is surely going to have to rapidly expand the image if he hopes to keep adding Pikmin until the game is released. It will be interesting to see how he intends to add so many Pikmin into the same image.

This kind of challenge might seem a little crazy at first, but there is an even more extreme challenge that has been undertaken during the wait for Pikmin 4. In the “Playing Pikmin Everyday Until Pikmin 4 Comes Out,” one player has decided to release a short Pikmin gameplay video every day until they can finally get their hands on Pikmin 4.

Pikmin is not the only game to have gotten this kind of treatment in recent years, and challenges where fans do something every day until a game’s release have started to become common.
