FromSoftware announced Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon at The Game Awards 2022. Fans of the series rejoiced at the announcement after a nine-year wait since the previous title, Armored Core: Verdict Day, and we’ll have gone an entire decade without a new release hitting store shelves.

Upon announcement, a YouTube channel run by @00riu, a game developer and cosplayer, attracted a lot of attention in Japan. The channel has been posting daily reports on whether new information on Armored Core has been announced or not since March 3, 2021. This means that at the time of this writing, he has been posting for 650 days without a break.

There had been no information about the new game until its announcement at The Game Awards, so he posted a video every day that simply said, “There was no information about the new Armored Core game.” Some days, he would simply say that there was no news, and other days he would take the chance to talk about other topics, such as little details in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.

This channel is believed to be an homage to the “Elden Ring News” channel, which reported “There is no news about Elden Ring today” for almost a year (related article). The “Elden Ring News” activity was rewarded on day 361 with the announcement of the game’s release date. @00riu however, posted for almost twice as long, which is quite a commitment even if the majority of videos are only 10 seconds long.

Then, on December 9 (JST), Armored Core VI was announced. @00riu conducted the channel’s first live broadcast with the title, “December 9, 2022, there was new Armored Core information !!!!!!!!”

The next day, however, he posted a new video, saying that he had something to tell the channel’s viewers and apologized. In fact, he confessed that he had “almost never” played the Armored Core series. Despite the fact that he had almost never played the games, he was still mysteriously obsessed with it.

In the video, he said that he had played the series on the PS2 in the past, but quit halfway through because he could not get used to the high difficulty level. As for his motivation on YouTube, he said that he started posting videos for two friends who love the Armored Core series, robots, and robot anime.

The videos he posted on YouTube were only intended to be “for his people.” However, they began to get picked up by social media and news sites, making many people aware of them. He posted the apology video because he felt that it was the only time to come out about the fact he hadn’t really played the games. But despite having little experience with the series, the effort to keep posting videos for 650 days for his friends must have been genuine.

In the comments section of the apology video, there are many positive responses. For example, one commenter said, “It’s great that you keep posting new standby videos of games you’ve never played every day,” and another said, “I’ll be happy if you take this as an opportunity to get people interested in the series just a little bit.”

In the future, the channel plans to post more information about Armored Core VI and its release date.
