Upcoming bishoujo game gets particularly heavy censorship in Japanese PlayStation release due to tightened regulations
Entergram have announced that their bishoujo dating sim Seifuku Kanojo 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch and PS4 in January. However, the official X account has revealed that some changes had to be made to all versions, with the PlayStation release being the most affected due to Sony’s tightened regulations on sexual content in games.
Seifuku Kanojo 2 (literally School Uniform Girlfriend 2) and its bundled side-chapter Seifuku Kanojo 2 SUMMER is a dating sim game in which the player can befriend and go on dates with various girls. It features many anime-style graphics of the characters in various revealing poses and outfits, including swimsuits, bunny costumes and school uniforms. The official X post suggests that some of the more revealing alternative versions of the game’s images have been removed or censored in the upcoming PS4 version.
Another X post highlighted some interface changes across all versions of the game, likely to comply with regulations (possibly those set down by Japanese game rating body CERO). For example, Seifuku Kanojo 2 has a “Horny Meter” in the form of a heart which fills up during your interactions with the girls. This has been renamed to “Make out meter.”
Earlier this year, PlayStation strengthened its regulations on adult content, causing something of an eroge boom on Switch, which is rather ironic when you consider its reputation as a family-friendly console. The age of the characters in Seifuku Kanojo 2, plus the suggestive dialogue, interactions and revealing images are probably what prompted some of the censorship.
Seifuku Kanojo 2 is scheduled to be released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on January 23, 2025 in Japanese only. Its side chapter Seifuku Kanojo 2 Summer is currently playable for free on both consoles.
