Japanese studio Clearrave has released a Steam demo for its upcoming occult horror visual novel Resequence: The Orchard. Told in a multi-perspective ensemble format, the game boasts illustrations by artist fracoco and a story by Re,AER, the developer of Magical Girl Witch Trials. While the demo is only available in Japanese, the developers are considering adding additional language support for the game in the future.

After his wife’s mysterious disappearance ten years ago, psychiatrist Kisuke Saito takes on a job as a school counselor. Saito’s counselling sessions reveal that the students have been experiencing different kinds of unexplainable phenomena which appear to be linked to their past trauma. As Saito learns more about his students, he unravels the mysteries behind the phenomena and his wife’s disappearance.
While the main plot centers on Kisuke, more than five characters (including Kisuke’s otaku-minded colleague Aislinn Conlin and several students) play a part in the story. The game branches into multiple storylines and different endings based on your decisions. The story tackles dark subject matter, with content warnings in place for depictions of suicide, psychologically disturbing scenes, violence, injury, and death (there is no bloodshed, however).

The newly released demo is roughly one hour long and includes two stories. “Record of Circumstances Leading to Working As a Student Counselor” follows Kisuke Saito, while “Counselling: Session 1” centers on the second-year introvert Sogo Soyogi.
Resequence: The Orchard is set to release in 2026 for Windows (Steam). A Japanese demo is now available.
