Chinese developer KDream has released a free demo for its new title My Fairy Princess via Steam. Similar to the long-running Princess Maker series, the game is a life-raising sim where you play as a cultivator (i.e., farmer) who adopts an orphaned girl. As her parent and guardian, your actions determine what kind of person your adoptive daughter becomes.
My Fairy Princess is set in an Eastern fantasy world called Fairyland, where humans, immortals, and fiends coexist. Gameplay revolves around nurturing your child by teaching her various skills. From simple chores like farming and cooking to more specialized tasks like crafting elixirs, your daughter’s daily activities increase her proficiency in different skills. While some tasks take place at home and in populated areas such as the local market street, you can also explore the untamed wilderness to fight enemies and increase your daughter’s combat prowess.
You two aren’t the only characters in the game. You’ll be joined by nobles and their daughters, wanderers, scholars, and fellow cultivators, all of whom have the potential to be your daughter’s companions, mentors, or lifelong partner (characters age alongside the shifting seasons). Your interactions not only affect their relationship with you and your daughter, but also shape your youngling’s emotional growth and future aspirations.
At the end of it all, you get to see what life path your daughter has chosen. She might be a healer with a heart of gold, an enchantress who steals everyone’s hearts, or something much darker. Finishing the game once unlocks new hidden storylines, characters, and endings, all of which incentivize multiple playthroughs. As you experience different story paths, you slowly uncover your daughter’s true origins.
