During yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Atlus finally decided to let us in on what they’ve been cooking up for the past 10 years, revealing the teaser trailer for the highly anticipated 6th mainline installment in the Persona series. Coming more than a decade after Persona 5, Persona 6 will, according to the (currently rather vague) description on its Microsoft Store page, revolve around “strange rumors, unsettling urban legends, and occult incidents.”
Likewise, the teaser trailer features footage of a dark, gothic graveyard, hinting that the game could possibly embrace a more horror/occult-inspired story. And while many have their hopes high for the series to go back to its roots with the new installment, leaning into the “darker” tones of Revelations: Persona and Persona 2, veteran fans in Japan don’t seem to be “buying” the aesthetic.
Back when Persona 5 was announced in 2013, Atlus dropped quite the ominous teaser trailer to accompany it. Featuring creepy sound effects, and the text reading “You are slave. Want emancipation?” over an image of shackled chairs and a bright red background, the teaser promised something quite different from the stylish and funky Persona 5 we know today. So, while the Persona 6 reveal teaser is drawing comparisons to the teaser of its predecessor due to the eerie vibes, many fans seem to be going “let’s not jump to conclusions so quickly.”
“Considering how the Persona 5 teaser looked, I don’t think you should pay much mind to the Persona 6 teaser,” one user wrote in a now viral post.
“Persona fans, please calm down. The Persona 6 teaser is indeed horror-esque, but considering Persona 5 was also like that and the actual opening sequence started with a fancy skating sequence, this too may end up being a surprisingly upbeat game.”
“When one of the earlier Persona 5 teasers came out, I thought the logo looked too much like a racing game. So, since the Persona 6 teaser reminded me so much of Resident Evil, that means that the next teaser that comes out will probably show a completely different vibe of a game.”
Over on YouTube, many are praising the dark and mature concept, linking it to older Persona entries and the Shin Megami Tensei series, but others took the opportunity to joke about the very likely tonal shift that might happen once more information about the game is released. “I know it, despite the creepy vibes, a few years later they’re all going to be dancing and it’s going to become a rhythm game,” the top commenter (at the time of writing) said.
That being said, considering that the original Persona 5 took quite a while to come out, we might have to wait at least a year or two before more concrete details about Persona 6 come out. For the time being, we’ll pretend we didn’t see any of the elusive images of a certain blonde character that have been circulating the internet.
Persona 6 is coming to PlayStation5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The release date is TBA.

Maybe its all fake like a bunch of teenagers running a “Fake” ghost hunting YouTube channel.
