Yahoo! Japan Flea Market, a customer-to-customer online marketplace selling second-hand goods, has recently announced a new initiative for its video game category that prohibits the sale of new games above their list price for one month after releasing. As reported by Denfaminicogamer, this decision is set to take effect starting November 13, and aims to cut down on the resale of popular titles at unfair prices via the online marketplace.

To ensure users can buy and sell entertainment products safely and securely, Yahoo! Flea Market will introduce a new policy to prevent high-value reselling from November 13. This initiative prohibits the sale of new game software above its list price for a specified period.
Once implemented, sellers on the platform will be unable to list new titles above their manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). Any remaining offenders will be subject to Yahoo! Japan’s preventive measures, such as removing the fraudulent listings or, in more serious cases, suspending the offender’s account.
While Yahoo! Japan has taken steps to reduce fraudulent transactions on its online marketplaces (such as prohibiting the listing of products like the Nintendo Switch 2 on Yahoo! Auctions), this new movement seeks to create fairer commerce spaces for everyone. Given the recent increase in resales of popular products over the past years, the company has likely decided to tackle this issue before it gets any worse.
