Monophobia is a 2.5D urban legend-solving game depicting the bond between two girls, written by yuri author Teren Mikami

Shochiku Games announced on September 8 that it has become the publisher of upcoming indie game Monophobia.

Shochiku Games announced on September 8 that it will publish Monophobia, a 2.5D urban legend adventure title developed by indie studio Dendrobium. First announced in 2025, the game’s character designs and main visuals are handled by Japanese artist wata, while the scenario is written by yuri author Teren Mikami (known for “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…” and “If You Could See Love”).

Monophobia follows the mysterious Konoka Kirihara and chipper Shino Nakano, two classmates who set out to investigate the supernatural phenomena that take place in their city. As the girls learn more about the truth, they grow closer and discover more about each other. Though the story features light psychological horror elements, the main focus lies with its two main protagonists and their quest.

Gameplay revolves around exploring the 2.5D city, gathering clues, and conducting detective work. Using a combination of “logic” and “special abilities,” you connect the clues in your journal and solve urban mysteries.

Inspired by 32-bit adventure games, Monophobia uses modern lighting techniques to bring its city and characters to life. While fans have had to make do with screenshots and a short animation demo for almost a year, a story demo showcasing the opening of the game will be unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2026, which takes place from September 17 to 21.

Monophobia is currently in development for Windows (Steam).
