Marvelous reports 1,105% profit growth during the first half of the year as overseas game sales exceed expectations

The company's game business has returned to profitability after posting a loss in the same period last year.

Game developer and publisher Marvelous recently published its financial results for the first half of the fiscal year (April to September 2026). As reported by GameBiz, the company saw large-scale growth across all profit metrics, with operating profit up 1,105.3% year-on-year. Alongside strong sales of game releases, the strikingly high profit margin was boosted by a comparative lack of large expenses related to game development and R&D.

Marvelous attributes the growth to stronger-than-expected overseas game sales (of new indie releases like Moonlight Peaks), as well as past console game releases. In particular, the company highlights the 2025 farming life sim Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar as making a dramatic contribution to earnings. Overall, the company’s digital content sector (core video game business) saw a return to profitability after posting a loss in the same period last year (in the previous fiscal year, Marvelous was affected by the weak launch of Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion and hefty development costs associated with upcoming releases).

Going forward, Marvelous plans to release Shinobi Nexus: Senran Kagura in Japan by the end of 2026 (as part of its efforts to revitalize the Senran Kagura IP). According to the company, pre-registrations for the game have already surpassed expectations.

Additionally, the company will release Vanillaware’s Muramasa: Revenant Blades on February 4 and Eternal Anima on March 5. The latter is a brand-new JRPG spearheaded by a team of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger veterans.
