Japan Self-Defense Force’s official cat boy furry mascot is now getting a plastic model kit 

The JASDF's viral furry mascot is getting a faithful plastic model kit. with preorders starting in July.

Fans of Omanekoone of the official mascots of Japan’s Self-Defense Force, can now rep the character in plastic model form. Two models are set to release this December as part of Aoshima Bunka Kyozai’s furry-oriented Kemopla line, with the standard edition featuring a wearable camo apron and the online limited edition including Omaneko’s iconic camo jacket, combat boots, and a matching assault rifle. True to the character’s original design, the model comes with no pants. 

As the mascot of the Japan Self-Defense Force’s Omaezaki sub-base, Omaneko is inspired by Nekosuka, a famous site in Omaezaki City. The character’s design was selected from submissions from within the force. Despite his feminine appearance, Omaneko is actually male. While the more risqué aspects of his design have been the subject of controversy among Japanese politicians, Omaneko and his fellow sub-base mascots have become quite popular thanks to social media and furry enthusiasts. Omaneko was even featured in the Japanese version of War Thunder as an in-game body pillow decal. 

Going back to the model kits, the standard edition is priced at 6,160 JPY, while the limited edition costs 9,460 JPY. The model is roughly 147mm (5.8 inches) in height. Pre-orders will begin on July 21, 2 PM JST, while the pre-order deadline for the limited edition ends on September 6, 11:59 PM JST.
