Expressly marketed for those who “play Project Zomboid like it’s Stardew Valley,” the upcoming Steam game In the Van is a post-apocalyptic zombie survival title that revolves around your mobile home. Developed by South Korean indie studio Cosmic Tofu, the game can be played solo or with friends.
After creating your survivor, you have access to your mobile home and are free to wander the world as you see fit. While the first trailer shows that you can set up camp near your home, much of the game focuses on using the facilities inside it to your advantage.
In the Van’s core loop has you driving to different areas to scavenge and craft items, weapons, and home upgrades for survival. You’ll also discover phones and digital devices on your adventures, which unlock bits of lore and clues to hidden caches, respectively.
The game also puts an emphasis on making your home a livable place. When you aren’t low on resources or fighting zombies, you can partake in relaxing activities such as placing plushies, growing crops, and cooking all types of food in and near your mobile home. Though the world has ended, that doesn’t mean you have to throw everyday pleasures out the window.
In the Van is currently in development for Windows and macOS (Steam).
