During the second day of Famitsu’s 40th anniversary livestream, God Eater game director Hiroshi Yoshimura was asked about the future of the franchise. While he couldn’t say anything in an official capacity, he briefly talked about the fan messages the dev team has been receiving, as well as God Eater’s importance to him:
“If you ask me if we’re working on anything behind the scenes, well, that would depend on what you mean by ‘behind the scenes.’ If you’re talking about what’s on my mind, I would say it’s a very important IP. For me, it’s an integral part of my youth.”
Yoshimura directed the original God Eater (which was released in 2010 in Japan), as well as the global version, Gods Eater Burst, and the 2015 remaster, God Eater Resurrection. He returned as director for God Eater 2 and its expansion, God Eater 2: Rage Burst, which were released in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Yoshimura also co-directed God Eater 3 alongside Wataru Atsumi and Ittetsu Suzuki, which was released in 2018.

“We’ve been receiving all sorts of messages from fans expressing their excitement, and I’ve taken those to heart,” Yoshimura told Famitsu. “Though I can’t say anything specific, I’m truly grateful for those messages.”
Given that it’s been seven years since God Eater 3 was released worldwide, it’s understandable that fans are waiting in anticipation for a new entry in the franchise. When Famitsu’s spokesperson told fans to direct their requests for a new game to Bandai Namco, Yoshimura simply replied, “We’d appreciate that.”
