If you’ve ever wanted to control a giant sea beast girl and save humanity in artillery battles against kaiju, then Giantess Naval Defense lets you do just that and then some. Developed and published by Pico Games (creator of the cooking survival action game Abyss Kitchen), this upcoming tower defense strategy game has you using a militarized hairpin to shoot down waves of kaiju and massive female kaiju bosses.
Set in a world beset by space Kaiju, Giantess Naval Defense follows Orca, a giant sea beast girl discovered by the military. Thanks to naval navigator Iruka Amano’s strange bond with Orca, humanity is able to communicate and work alongside the giant as they fight back against the invading Kaiju.
Gameplay is divided into combat and resource gathering. During combat, waves of enemy Kaiju make their way from the right side of the screen toward Orca and her naval reinforcements. Your job is to aim and fire the naval artillery mounted on the side of Orca’s head, which just so happens to be shaped like a fashionable hairpin. While some weapons have limited ammo and need to be reloaded, others require you to dissipate their heat so they don’t overload. In addition to her naval guns, Orca has access to unique skills, a shield, and can even call on supporting battleships for support fire.
Aside from the standard Kaiju fare, each stage ends with a boss fight against a powerful Kaiju girl. Hitting the boss’s weak spots briefly opens her up for a counterattack, which lets you deal significant damage. Defeated Kaiju Girls are captured and brought back to your base for study. New upgrades can be crafted using the intel and materials you gather, which lets you take on stronger threats and advance the story.
Resource gathering takes place between combat waves, and has you hopping into a submarine to collect submerged materials from fallen Kaiju for a limited time. Given the strict time limit, proper route planning and item prioritization are key to creating a build that lets you survive the harder waves.
Giantess Naval Defense is set to release in 2027 for Windows (Steam).
