It’s been a little over a year since Pico Games first announced Abyss Kitchen, a 2D survival action title with a focus on cooking, ingredient collecting, and mouthwatering recipes. The Steam page has since been updated, marking July 24 as the game’s release date.
Abyss Kitchen follows Lop, the designated chef in a party of adventurers. While the rest of your comrades handle the fighting, you skillfully maneuver the battlefield, dodging projectiles and collecting fresh ingredients for cooking.

It is from these ingredients that you can create over 40 dishes, all of which bestow unique effects like increased attack power and curing poison debuffs. Aside from effects, you should also be mindful of each party member’s preferences.
You can also cook certain foods and feed companions during combat. In the BitSummit demo we played, feeding your companions with a hamburger once they have reached their max levels allows them to unleash their special attacks. While Lop generally avoids combat, you can lend a helping hand to the party with your crossbow.

Abyss Kitchen is set to launch with 16 stages for its main story, and includes several resource-gathering minigames. Outside of ingredient farming, cooking, and fighting, you can also increase the bonds between Lop and her party members, with certain events triggering based on your bond level. With its cute, hand-drawn character designs and mouthwatering depictions of food, the game seems to know where its strengths lie.
Abyss Kitchen is set to release on July 24 for Windows (Steam). A free demo is also available.
