Former Devil May Cry dev delays solo-developed anime superhero action game MIGHTREYA indefinitely to further polish gameplay and visuals

Former Devil May Cry developer Wazen announces that he would indefinitely postponing the release of his action game MIGHTREYA.

Following his October announcement that MIGHTREYA would be delayed from a 2025 release to “the first half of 2026,” solo Japanese creator and former Devil May Cry developer Wazen has decided to postpone the game yet again. While he did not specify a new release date, he assured fans that the extra development time would be used to refine MIGHTREYA’s action, visuals, and gameplay.

Though MIGHTREYA was announced in 2024, it has been in development for nearly five years. The game follows Reya, a high school girl with superpowers. Together with her manager, Rio, the two livestream themselves fighting monsters from another dimension. By combining her arsenal of three weapons and 30 unique actions and attacks, Reya beats the pulp out of 24 enemy types across 38 levels. Reya can also fly and dash at high speeds, letting you get the full experience of playing as a superpowered teenager.

Wazen has gone to great lengths to make MIGHTREYA’s development process as transparent as possible. Not only does he keep the fans posted on the game’s development status via its  Steam page, official Discord, YouTube channel, and his personal X account, but he also regularly updates the free demo on Steam to reflect the current build.

Thanks to this transparency, most fans seem to remain supportive of the decision to postpone the game’s release. Wazen’s most recent X post features Reya’s sword actions and shows he has already gone back to improving MIGHTREYA.

MIGHTREYA is currently in development for Windows (Steam). A free demo is also available.
