Danganronpa official art contest to be judged by series creator Kazutaka Kodaka himself

The Danganronpa Creative Contest will last from June 1 to August 3, accepting illustrations, crafts, cosplay and coloring entries.

While he may have left Spike Chunsoft in 2017 to establish his own game company, Too Kyo Games, Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka is still very much involved in the franchise. Not only is he supervising the upcoming expanded remake of 2012’s Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (called “Danganronpa 2×2”), but he will also judge the upcoming official Danganronpa Creative Contest across all four categories.

In honor of the franchise’s 15th anniversary, Spike Chunsoft is calling for Danganronpa fans to submit entries for the Illustration, Cosplay, Crafts, and Coloring categories of the art contest, which will last from June 1 to August 31 at 11:59 pm JST. While the Illustration and Cosplay categories are self-explanatory (aspiring contestants need to send in images or photographs of their work), the Crafts and Coloring categories refer to submitted images of handmade or 3D craftworks and colored works based on provided templates, respectively.

Though there are no limits on how many entries you can submit and which categories you enter, it is worth mentioning that works that contain spoilers for Danganronpa are not allowed. Aside from Kodaka, entries will be judged by Danganronpa 2×2 producer Shohei Sakakibara and the development team at Spike Chunsoft.

Winners will be divided into five groups. The singular Grand Prize winner of the Illustration category will receive 50,000 yen (roughly $300), a commemorative gift, and a Steam key for Danganronpa 2×2 when it releases later this year. Three Grand Prize winners of the Cosplay, Craft and Coloring categories respectively will be awarded 30,000 JPY ($190 USD) each, alongside the Steam Key and commemorative item.

Runner-ups (three entries from the Illustration category and one entry from each of the other categories) will receive 10,000 JPY ($60 USD) in addition to the commemorative gift and Steam Key. The User Award, given to the first-place winner in the contest’s online rankings, will receive a special commemorative gift. Finally, three Lucky Prize winners selected across all categories will win one Steam key each for posting their entries to X before September 7.
