Today, Spike Chunsoft unveiled some details regarding the new mysterious student that appeared in the latest trailer for Danganronpa 2×2, which was premiered on this month’s Nintendo Direct.
Lovingly nicknamed “John Danganronpa” by fans, the new addition to the character roster is Sakutaro Higashi, the Ultimate ??? who gets dragged into the Class Trials in the game’s new Slayhem Mode. He is voiced by Natsuki Hanae in Japanese and Griffin Burns in English.
Danganronpa 2×2 is a remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, the second installment in the Danganronpa series, originally released for the PSP in 2012. While Danganronpa 2×2 features a full remake of the original story, it also includes the aforementioned Slayhem Mode, with a completely new scenario supervised by series creator Kazutaka Kodaka, as well as new twists, culprits, victims and murder tricks.
Though all we know so far is his name, it will be interesting to see how Sakutaro fits in the new story.
Danganronpa 2×2 is scheduled to release on January 14, 2027, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam/Epic Games Store).
