Bocchi the Rock movie grosses over 200 million yen in Japan in three days
Bocchi the Rock! Re: topped the weekend chart of Japan’s box office immediately following its premiere in movie theaters on June 7. As reported by Oricon News, the film earned 218 million yen (about $1.39 million) in total box-office revenue between June 7 to 10, attracting 140,113 people.
Bocchi the Rock! Re: is the first part of the two-episode Bocchi the Rock! theatrical compilation. Although the movie only recaps the events of the original TV anime series, it is performing exceptionally well. The Bocchi the Rock anime series aired from October to December 2022, and it soon gained viral popularity, winning awards and accumulating fans worldwide. This led to the original manga selling out. With its inspiring story of a fictional rock band, The Bocchi the Rock anime even caused a spike in guitar sales, leading to a shortage of Les Pauls (which eventually made their way back to secondhand retailers).
The second part of the compilation, entitled Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re is set to premiere on August 9, 2024.
