Following BlazBlue Entropy Effect X’s reveal during Sony’s November State of Play livestream, Mako Komao and Akihito Kumagawa, two writers who have worked on mainline BlazBlue titles and novelizations – announced that they would be lending their talents to the new 2D adventure spin-off game. While the original Entropy Effect had few connections to the original source material in terms of story, Kumagawa and Komao’s involvement could be a sign that Entropy Effect X’s narrative may expand upon the BlazBlue canon.
I had the pleasure of assisting with the scenario in a collaborative capacity alongside Mr. Kumagawa. I believe the writing captures the essence of Aoi from the Entropy Effect game, so do give it a play if you get the chance!
With regards to their writing contributions to the franchise, both Kumagawa and Komao served as scenario support for BlazBlue: Central Fiction and BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend. In addition, Komao provided scenario support for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend and the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle spin-off (they are also the author of the BlazBlue light novel series published by Kadokawa). Given their collective experience writing for the franchise, it looks like BlazBlue Entropy Effect X’s story is in good hands.
It should be noted that BlazBlue Entropy Effect X comes following series creator Toshimichi Mori’s departure from Arc System Works in 2022. Despite no longer being involved in the franchise, his official X account reposted Kumagawa’s and Komao’s posts, signaling his indirect approval of the project and their involvement.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is set to release on February 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
