Manga artist and film director Katsuhiro Otomo, best known as the author of the original AKIRA manga and director of its 1988 anime film adaptation, has established OVAL GEAR Animation Studio, a production company under Oval Gear Co. Ltd.
The new studio was launched with the aim of passing on the “filmmaking methods and authorial sensibility Katsuhiro Otomo has cultivated over decades” to the new generations, as well as to produce new animated works for global release. A new project by Otomo is currently already in production at the studio, with further updates due to be shared via the official homepage and X account.
Simultaneously with the launch reveal, OVAL GEAR Animation Studio has announced that it’s planning to open recruitment for animators and production staff, welcoming applications from both young talent and experienced professionals alike. Details about the application process and job requirements will be posted to the official site at a later date.
