Five days after the first Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six open beta went live on Steam, indie creator Surume Kobo announced that 45,000 Pilots have participated in the playtest. Steam Wishlists also increased by roughly 40,000, bringing the total to 100,000.
Set to release in 2027, Omega Phenex’s fast-paced movement and combat are heavily inspired by FromSoftware’s Armored Core franchise. As the pilot of the highly maneuverable and customizable Icarus mech, you soar through the skies in either first- or third-person and take on enemy combatants with a variety of ranged weaponry, with an unlockable close-range Laser Blade also available. Your mech’s boost gauge lets you quickly speed across the battlefield and avoid enemy gunfire, which you’ll rarely have to worry about since it refills at a moderate rate. The game supports mouse and keyboard play as well as controllers.

Similar to Armored Core, swapping the Icarus’s parts changes how it performs. From simple color palettes to weapons and plating, you’ll be able to craft a mech that looks and plays just how you want it to. Unlike Armored Core, however, most of your mech’s capabilities are determined by the Tune mechanic, which lets you spend in-game currency to upgrade stats like the Icarus’s speed, health, and weapon performance.
If you manage to get access to the Omega Phenex beta, do take the time to answer the feedback survey. This helps the two-man team (which consists of Surume Kobo, who does all of the coredevelopment work, and one operations manager) improve the game with future updates and improvements leading to the game’s release.
The Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six open beta will until June 25, while the full game is set to release in 2027 for Windows (Steam). Provided the PC version is successful, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch ports are also being considered.

This is Fulcrum from Surume Koubou.
Thank you so much for featuring “OMEGA PHENEX”!
Your support means a lot to our indie team.
While we loved the article, we noticed two small inaccuracies regarding the gameplay mechanics, and we would be incredibly grateful if you could update them to prevent any confusion among the players.
1. Regarding Melee Weapons
The article mentions that there are currently no melee weapons in the game. However, a close-combat “Laser Blade” weapon is actually implemented and available for players to use after finishing all the missions in the Beta.
2. Regarding Recommended Controls
The article states that the developer recommends Mouse & Keyboard controls. We have not officially recommended any specific control scheme. Players are completely free to enjoy the game using their preferred method.
We mainly use a gamepad for development, too.
We understand that with a beta version, specific details can sometimes be tricky to pin down, so we truly appreciate your understanding and assistance in amending these two points.
Thank you again for your fantastic article and your continued support of the indie game community!
Best regards,
Fulcrum
