The high-speed mecha shooter Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six, has launched its first playable open beta on Steam, planned to run until June 25.
Developed by Japanese indie creator Surume Kobo, Omega Phenex is an ambitious indie title that draws inspiration from the mech action of FromSoftware’s Armored Core series and the scenic environments of the Ace Combat franchise. The project was initially launched under the working title “Project Six,” and is slated for official release sometime in 2027. The game puts you in the cockpit of the highly agile Icarus, pitting you against enemy mechs in extremely high-speed shooting battles. The Icarus comes with no restrictions on turning speed, and boost gauge depletion is balanced generously to keep the experience satisfying.

No mech game is complete without customization, and Omega Phenex allows you to fine tune both your Icarus’s apparance and specs. While different parts come with slight differences in performance, important parameters like durability, mobility and weapon performance can be adjusted through global “Tune” values, allowing you to achieve your ideal look and specs at the same time.

In terms of gameplay, Omega Phenex offers 30 missions, including extermination, boss battles, exploration and escort missions. In addition, an Arena Mode lets you focus on-one-one battles against enemy mechs.
The game’s first playest, which started on April 25, gives players a taste of the fully-voiced Story Mode. Centered around the protagonist Seeker, the narrative unfolds on Atlantis, an unexplored land riddled with mysterious autonomous weapons. The beta also lets you dive into the mech customization system, with parts being unlocked as you clear missions. The developer warns that save data from the beta will not carry over to the full game.
Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six’s open beta is available on Steam and will run until June 25. The full game is slated for launch in 2027.
