Japanese bishojo game studio Yuzusoft announced on August 7 that its magic-themed adult visual novel, Sabbat of the Witch, has sold over 500,000 copies. Released on PC in 2015, the game achieved the milestone after 11 years.
Sabbat of the Witch follows Hoshina Shuuji, a boy who has the power to sense others’ emotions. One day, he discovers that his classmate, Ayachi Nene, is a witch who experiences random spasms of arousal as a result of a magic contract. Drawn together by their strange first meeting, Hoshina and Nene find themselves learning more about each other and the world of witchcraft. Along the way, they meet other witches and humans, many of whom go to the same school as they do.

While the original visual novel is rated 18+ and features adult content, the base Steam version that was released in 2018 is rated for all-ages. An 18+ Adult Only Patch was added as free DLC for those who want to play the game in its original form. Sabbat of the Witch currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with over 2,000 reviews praising its story, art, and music. A full HD version featuring Simplified and Traditional Chinese, as well as Japanese language support was released in 2023 for select countries. Following the full HD version’s release, Sabbat of the Witch sold another 200,000 copies, making it the biggest driver of recent sales. Based on review numbers, the game seems to have been especially popular among Chinese-speaking users as of late.
Sabbat of the Witch is available in its original form on the Yuzusoft webpage (NSFW), as well as Steam.
