Fans admire Ryu’s nipples after the latest Street Fighter 6 trailer

Capcom released a new Street Fighter 6 trailer during June 2’s State of Play presentation. Among the introduction of new mechanics and game modes, there was something else fans couldn’t keep their eyes off of. Ryu’s nipples.

Ryu is the billboard character for the Street Fighter series. With his character model in the upcoming title, Ryu’s appeal isn’t just his thick beard and broad shoulders, but also his nipples, apparently.

Ryu has shown his bare chest in previous games before, such as his “Battle Outfit 1” skin in Street Fighter V. But this look was never really pushed in promotional videos and media, opting for his traditional karate gi outfit.

But with Street Fighter 6, Ryu has gone from his usual look to showing off his bare chest. For that reason, his nipples frequently appear in the latest trailer. Around the 1:20 mark we get just a glimpse, with Ryu’s nipples clearly visible in all their detail around 1:45. They’re also clearly shown in the character introduction scene that comes later and when Ryu takes a counter from Chun-Li.

By searching “Ryu nipple” in either English or Japanese, we can see that a lot of viewers took notice. People were saying everything from the areolas are huge to they focused on the nipples and missed the game content.

The previous Street Fighter 6 trailer also featured a bare-chested Ryu, but with that trailer, it was Ryu’s lower half that had fans talking (related article). Capcom giving us a better look at Ryu’s upper body this time around may be why his nipples are in the spotlight.

When it comes to nipples in fighting games, different developers are taking their own approach. One game that’s especially accurate is Tekken 7. Using Unreal Engine 4, Kazuya and others have their nipples depicted with great attention to detail.

While the protuberance of the nipples aren’t shown, many character do have visible nipples in Tekken 7. Their dynamic response to the game’s glossy look is also worthy of praise. Players wanting to take a closer look can do so in the model viewer, another point for Tekken 7.

Even Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown has scrupulously crafted nipples for characters like El Blaze and Taka-Arashi, but Dead or Alive 6 and The King of Fighters XV take a more passive approach with subdued colors.

Fighting games are about bringing characters together for all out brawls, and not having nipples can break the immersion for some players. That may be why we see fighting game developers diligently working to bring nipples to gamers.

Street Fighter 6 uses Capcom’s esteemed RE ENGINE. However, from what we can see in the trailer, it doesn’t appear to reach the level of detail in Tekken 7. But rather than when compared to other series, perhaps the praise for Street Fighter 6’s Ryu is because the character’s nipples are proudly on display compared to previous Street Fighter titles. To some fans, the large areolas are a point of praise, but with richer detail in regard to protuberance, they could really separate themselves from the competition.

Maybe they’re just nipples, but through them we get a glimpse of a company’s skill and attention to detail. It will be exciting to see just how far they push it between now and the game’s release.

Street Fighter 6 is scheduled to launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) in 2023.
