Square Enix revealed more information about Babylon’s Fall via their second livestream about the game on January 25. PlayStation 5 footage was also shown.
Babylon’s Fall is a multiplayer online action RPG being co-developed by Square Enix and PlatinumGames, with gameplay rooted in PlatinumGames’ hack and slash style. Players take the role of a Sentinel equipped with a device called the “Gideon Coffin,” and set off to claim the treasures that wait in the Tower of Babel.
During the broadcast, the developers revealed new information about the content that will be included in each post-launch season. Content will include story quests, special foes called “Infamous Enemies” to fight in Skirmish side quests, and weekly quests called Siege for special items
The broadcast also showed off gameplay of Skirmish quests. The main goal of these quests is to gather equipment and materials, with each quest generally having set items that you will receive. However, the effects added to these items will be random. In addition, that aforementioned Infamous Enemies are especially strong foes that also appear at random. If they aren’t defeated within a certain time limit, they will run away. The final boss of each area is also decided at random. It sounds like a series of quests that can be played over and over while hunting for rare items.
There was also a section of the broadcast where the development team answered questions from the official Discord server. We learned a lot of little details here such as how quests will be roughly 10 minutes long, and there won’t be trading or selling with other players. Plus, the server you play on will be determined by the country you reside in, and progression will be managed on an account basis, rather than by character. The game previously made news for using equipment assets from Final Fantasy XIV (related article), but the team said all monsters that appear are unique to the game.
They also mentioned that they will take appropriate measures against cheaters. On the other hand, it sounds like there will be no measures against AFK players. In the event that you get matched with an AFK player, the team said it’s faster to leave and enter a new match. It also sounds like the difficulty will be automatically adjusted if someone drops out mid-game. As for in-game purchases, there will only be cosmetic items, and the game will include a battle pass type of system.
Babylon’s Fall is scheduled to launch on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on March 3. The next official Babylon’s Fall livestream will take place sometime after the second week of February and is planned to feature information about Siege quests.
