Tides of Annihilation, an upcoming action-adventure game by Chinese developer Eclipse Glow Games, got a new story trailer reveal during Gamescom 2026, showcasing the story and setting. Although the game is set in a modern, dark-fantasy London and heavily based on Arthurian legend, it actually draws significant influence from Japanese anime and games, with some of the development team members even having experience working on major JRPG franchises.
Tides of Annihilation is a linear, story-driven singleplayer game that centers around protagonist Gwendolyn, the lone survivor of an invasion from The Otherworld in a devastated London. The story follows her quest to uncover the truth behind the catastrophe, save her sister, and the rest of humanity, all while searching for the Holy Grail. Gameplay revolves around a unique system that allows Gwendolyn to summon and command the spectral forms of the Knights of the Round Table, each wielding different combat roles and abilities.
Talking to Game*Spark in a recent interview, the developers say that this very mechanic – of Knights manifesting next to the protagonist – was inspired by Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, particularly the way “Stands” appear next to characters and fight alongside them. Additionally, and somewhat less surprisingly, the developers drew influence from the Fate series, a good portion of which is likewise based on the legend of King Arthur. Another source of inspiration was Kentaro Miura’s dark fantasy manga Berserk, particularly its portrayal of “humans going up against transcendent beings.”

In terms of video games, the team cites Shadow of the Colossus, the original God of War trilogy, Final Fantasy, and the Devil May Cry series as major influences. “We’re striving to create something new and fully our own while standing on the shoulders of these brilliant predecessors.”
While Tides of Annihilation is quite ambitious in its scale and objectives, the developers say their team is composed of many people who have experienced working on major commercial franchises like Like a Dragon, Persona, and Assassin’s Creed. “Our studio was formed by people who love action games and have experience developing single-player titles, so creating this game was a natural progression for us.”
Tides of Annihilation is coming soon to PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X❘S.
