Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gliding glitch lets you fly faster
A glitch in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that lets you use Koraidon or Miraidon to rapidly fly through the sky has been gathering the attention of players.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet feature ridable Pokémon that help players to traverse through the open world. In Scarlet players are able to ride Koraidon, while in Violet they instead ride Miraidon. Although their abilities are quite limited when you first meet, by progressing through one of the game’s main story paths, you can unlock additional abilities that let you travel on water, glide through the air, and more.
The newly discovered glitch allows players to use Koraidon and Miraidon’s gliding ability at a much higher speed than normal. The fastest way to wrap your head around the concept might be to take a look at a tweet by @yuudainano, the player who had a big part in drawing attention to this glitch.
As you can see in the video, the glitch allows you to travel through the skies of Paldea at a rapid pace. I (the original author of this article) tried it myself, and when I eventually succeeded at getting the glitch to work, the speed was so fast that the 3D rendering of the game world can barely keep up. The process for replicating the glitch is explained in the tweet by @yuudainano below.
When we asked @yuudainano about the glitch, they said that they learned of it from another user’s post at the start of December, so it appears that @yuudainano is not the player who first discovered the glitch. Also keep in mind that flying too quickly could take you right outside of Paldea, and if you try to open the map screen at that point, it will make the game freeze.
But how does this even occur in the first place? It may be due to the fact that if you rotate while starting a glide in the midst of a fall, it produces a large burst of acceleration. These acceleration boosts are likely being preserved each time, causing your travel speed to rapidly increase.
A similar glitch known as Bullet Time Bounce (BTB) was also discovered in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild some time ago (related article). Although the steps involved in replicating these two glitches are rather different, it feels like the underlying behavior is similar.
@yuudainano is actually well-versed in Breath of the Wild too. They claimed that the gliding acceleration glitch in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet lets you travel even faster than Breath of the Wild’s BTB and BLSS (related article) glitches.
If you would like to try replicating the glitch yourself, keep in mind that there are risks involved. The game can crash very easily when you are traveling at speeds that go beyond what is expected in regular play. For anyone who still wants to try it out, we recommend that you turn off the auto-save function beforehand.
