Hunter x Hunter manga author Yoshihiro Togashi has taken to X to give an update on his health, after a hiatus was announced for the long-running series last week. Togashi reported on December 11 that he had been bedridden for several days, but his condition has improved somewhat, and he is still working on the manga.
For some reason, I was bedridden for a few days.
Although I’m still a little unsteady on my feet, I have recovered enough to walk around the house and retrieve my work phone myself.
I’m not good at asking people for help.
Hunter x Hunter came back from a year-long hiatus this October 7, with Togashi producing ten chapters up until December 8’s chapter 410, when it was announced that HxH would be going on hiatus again. Naturally, this sparked concerns among fans of the mangaka and his work.
On November 28, Togashi reported that he had surgery under local anesthetic but did not specify the details. He was still working on the manga though, and mentioned in his surgery post that he had completed the storyboards for two chapters.
Togashi, who also created Yu Yu Hakusho, started the Hunter x Hunter manga in 1998. However, he has taken frequent breaks due to health issues. Serialization of the manga previously went on an almost 4-year hiatus between 2018 and 2022. In November 2023, Togashi revealed four possible endings for the Hunter x Hunter manga on a Japanese TV program, in case he becomes unable to finish it. However, it seems that the current hiatus could be shorter than previous ones, as Togashi is still gradually storyboarding new chapters.
