During The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo unveiled a detailed trailer showcasing the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and its gameplay, presented by producer Eiji Aonuma. The game is scheduled to launch this year for the Switch 2, on November 5.
The trailer reveals the game’s fully revamped visuals, which were designed to be somewhat more realistic, yet still faithful and nostalgia-inducing for fans of the original. The remake comes with plenty of additional dialogue, intended to further flesh out the characters.
In terms of gameplay, the remake adds a Jump control and dashing, which was not present in the original. Link is also able to swim and dive into water. Overall, combat is designed to feel snappier than in the original game. Weapons like slingshots respond to motion controls when aiming, and weapons and can be easily switched like in other modern Zelda titles.
Of note, the new Ocarina of Time retains the original game’s loading screens purposely. A new feature called Threads of Time allows you to keep track of your progress in the story and next goal in an organized way, through a tapestry that is gradually unlocked.
Also important to exploration is that the remake introduces a free camera. Parts of the map that were merely backgrounds before have been fleshed out into real locations, and the day-and-night cycle that marches on wherever you are, contrary to the original game.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is scheduled to launch on November 5 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
