The Exit 8’s official sequel finally announced
The Exit 8 developer Kotake Create launched the Steam page for the hit indie game’s sequel on March 30. Entitled Platform 8, the new game is set to be released around the end of April or beginning of May. It will be playable in English and Japanese.
Released in November 2023, The Exit 8 was a surprise hit on Steam- selling over 30,000 copies in the first 24 hours and racking up a 93% Very Positive rating on the platform. The walking sim has you trapped in the looping passage of an underground train station, which you must escape via exit 8. To reach the elusive exit, you need to be on the lookout for anomalies in your surroundings- if there are no anomalies, it’s safe to continue. But if you spot something strange, you must turn back. The combination of this simple but effective anomaly-spotting mechanic and walking sim set in an unnerving liminal space quickly sparked lots of similar games, spawning an Exit 8-like genre (see Station 5, Shinkansen 0 and Track No.9).
According to the Steam Page for the sequel Platform 8, you are trapped in a train that runs forever and must find a way to escape. Like the previous title, gameplay will involve anomalies. However, according to the developer’s X post, Platform 8 will apparently feature new gameplay while keeping characteristic elements of the previous game. Therefore, it seems like you will have to find a different way of escaping in Platform 8.
As for familiar elements, it seems like everyone’s favorite middle-aged NPC guy (who inspired a surprising amount of fanart and affection) will be making a comeback, as seen in the trailer and screenshots.
After Platform 8 has come out, it seems that Japanese developer Kotake Create will continue working on his other upcoming game Strange Shadow.
Platform 8 will be released on PC (Steam) around the end of April/beginning of May.
