Super Mario Party Jamboree tops Japan game charts for 8th week; exceeds 1 million sales

After an eventful holiday season, Nintendo’s Super Mario Party Jamboree once again tops Famitsu’s list of physical game sales in Japan. The sales period, which ran from December 23, 2024 to January 5, 2025, showed very few changes in the last few weeks of 2024, with games like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership showing no signs of moving from the top five spots.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

This is the eighth time Super Mario Party Jamboree has topped the Japan game charts. This period also marks the game exceeding 1 million copies sold (the game sold 236,483 copies during this period alone). These sales figures are commendable, considering the game was released on October 17, 2024 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title. Super Mario Party Jamboree was also nominated for the “Best Family Game” and “Best Multiplayer Game” categories at The Game Awards 2024.

Nintendo Switch

Speaking of the Nintendo Switch, the original console topped Famitsu’s list of game hardware sold during the same period. 23,149 consoles were sold over the holiday season, bringing the total number of Nintendo Switches sold to 20,030,355 units.

Even with so many variations of the Switch still being sold, fans are eagerly anticipating the console’s successor. Considering that Nintendo confirmed the new console will have backwards compatibility, people need not worry about their Nintendo Switch games gathering dust when the inevitable successor releases.
