The Suikoden Project Team recently released an update regarding Suikoden STAR LEAP, the first mobile RPG in Konami’s long-running fantasy franchise.
While development of the title, which was announced back in spring of 2025, seems to be progressing smoothly, we don’t have an official release date yet. However, the developers have confirmed the release order for different versions of the game, which will be staggered across regions and platforms.
Despite being a free-to-play title, Star Leap is positioned as a full-fledged new installment to the series, expanding on its universe and official history. Following a new cast of characters, the story is set to begin 2 years before the events of Suikoden I, gradually unravelling across various eras across the series. According to Star Leap’s producer Shinya Fujimatsu, the new series entry is imagined as a fusion of mobile and console gaming, merging visuals, music and story comparable to that of console games with the accessibility of mobile titles.
In the recent announcement, it was confirmed that the iOS/Android version of Suikoden STAR LEAP would be rolling out in Japan first, followed by the global mobile version. The Steam version will come last, launching simultaneously worldwide. According to the developers, announcements regarding respective release dates will be made gradually, so fans looking to play the global version can expect for its release date to be revealed after the launch of the Japanese version of the game. It’s important to mention that the global version of the game will not be available in certain countries and regions, though the Suikoden Project Team did not specify the exact places affected by this.
As the developers explain, the reason for the gradual release plan for the game is to give the team time to carefully prepare the game, optimize it for each platform, and allow “stress-free access from players across multiple regions.”
Additionally, the Suikoden Project Team has also launched its official X account, where all future updates regarding the game will be announced.
