Shonen Jump publisher disqualifies AI-generated manga after it ranked no. 1 in rookie contest ranking

After rising to the top of a monthly popularity vote, an AI-generated manga has been disqualified by Shueisha.

Shueisha, the publisher of acclaimed manga magazines like Weekly Shonen Jump, recently disqualified an entry in a contest held by its Jump Rookie platform due to the work being AI-generated.

To give some background, Jump Rookie is a platform open to anyone to post their work. Every month, a competition is held that grants the most popular rookie authors on the site the opportunity to have their manga officially published through Shueisha’s major digital comic platform Jump+. The competition is essentially a popularity vote, with the winner being the manga with the highest number of views on its latest three chapters.

During the February 2026 round of the competition, a manga titled NTR Kaeshi rose to the top of the rankings, accumulating over 15,700 views by February 1. Uploaded by Fukashigi-chan, the romance comedy manga centered on “cuckolding” uses AI-generated images, as indicated on the author’s personal X account.

Although NTR Kaeshi briefly looked set to win a Jump+ publishing deal, Shueisha disqualified the title from the competition as of February 11. As disclosed by the author, they received an email from Jump Rookie staff notifying them that Jump+ does not allow publication of AI-generated manga, which meant their entry would be invalidated. While existing chapters of NTR Kaeshi remain viewable on the platform, the series has been cancelled.

The new leader in the competition is currently the mystery horror manga Ura Takeru Wants to go Home, with 11,700 hits.
