Japanese indie developer viv has recently launched the Steam store page for their upcoming experimental minimalist visual novel DISK-Y, which is scheduled to release in November this year.
DISK-Y follows the story of Yuu, a transfer student struggling with psychological issues. It will be your (the nameless protagonist’s) job to guide her around the school, and act as her emotional support. You are given the choice to either “merge with” or “reject” her unstable mind. While the store page description is still pretty vague, it hints at a dark twist, prompting the player to uncover the hidden truth of the in-game world.

The game features a distinctive PC-98 audio-visual style, with retro pixel graphics presented at a resolution of 320px × 240px and a soundtrack created with FM synthesis. The game can be completed in about 10-15 minutes.

On a related note, DISK-Y’s developer Viv is best known as the creator of the horror adventure game Saihate Station, which currently boasts an Overwhelmingly Positive review score on Steam, with over 10,000 cumulative reviews. Another one of their projects, This Game is Not Real, was also highly anticipated, garnering over 24,000 Steam. However, the Steam release ended up getting shelved due to the game “not meeting platform criteria.” Luckily, it can still be purchased via DLsite and BOOTH.
As of August 23, DISK-Y has already accumulated over 1,000 Wishlists, and Viv promises that they will “properly get it to meet platform criteria,” as this time, the game is more on the wholesome side.
DISK-Y is set to release on Steam in November 2026, with English, Japanese, Korean, Italian and Vietnamese language options.
