Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio composer’s new turn-based JRPG Guns Undarkness to get free demo on February 24

Shoji Meguro's turn-based stealth JRPG Guns Undarkness will be getting a free demo on Steam on February 24.

Kodansha and Shoji Meguro have announced that the turn-based stealth JRPG Guns Undarkness will be getting a free demo on Steam on February 24. The game is planned to start Early Access in Spring 2025.

Guns Undarkness is an upcoming tactical stealth RPG helmed by Shoji Meguro – the composer of the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Meguro was a part of Atlus since 1996 all the way up to his departure in 2021. Since then, he’s been active as a freelancer and indie developer under the alias MegaRock while continuing to collaborate with Atlus.

Meguro’s new game draws inspiration from Metal Gear Solid and Persona. It’s set in the year 2045, in a world devastated by a nuclear war. You’ll play as a member of a PMC (Private Military Company) and take on missions with your allies.

The game is divided into stealth and battle sections. During the former, you’ll move around the field while trying to remain undetected by enemies. If you manage to engage an enemy without being detected, you’ll earn the upper hand in battle. Encounters will unfold in a tactical turn-based command battle format, with the protagonist using various firearms.

Most of Guns Undarkness’s development is being handled by Meguro himself, with song lyrics written by Persona 3’s Lotus Juice, and illustrations by Ilya Kuvshinov.

The game’s upcoming demo will be about 20 minutes long and will include a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapon customization, and strategies for the early stages of the story.

The demo version of Guns Undarkness releases on February 24 for the PC (Steam). The game is planned to start Early Access in Spring 2025.
