Atlus has announced that Persona 3 Portable’s female protagonist is coming to Persona 5: The Phantom X as a playable phantom idol. The character will be using her canon name, Kotone Shiomi, and will be part of an upcoming collaboration event.
The devs weren’t able to finalize the characters’ illustrations before the announcement (the teaser only shows the silhouettes of Kotone and her golden Orpheus Persona), but the overall story and tone of the event has been finalized. Work on other dev processes like 3D models has just started, so it seems that it will be some time before the collab is ready to go live.
Given her absence in 2024’s Persona 3 Reload, Kotone’s last appearance in a Persona game was in 2019’s Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, a crossover RPG between Persona 3, 4, and 5. Outside of Persona, she has made crossover and cameo appearances in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the mobile puzzle game Puzzle & Dragons.
We already know that the developers at Atlus’s P-Studio have no intention of adding Kotone to Persona 3 Reload. With her addition to Persona 5: The Phantom X, fans of the character will hopefully find some consolation when she releases (Makoto Yuki, the male protagonist of Persona 3, is already in the mobile game). Failing that, players can make use of a fan-made Persona 3 Reload mod that adds her into the remake.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is available for mobile (Android and iOS) and Windows. More information on the Persona 3 Portable collaboration will be released at a later date.
