Following the recent earthquake in Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture, Nintendo has issued a statement pledging to provide free hardware repair services for its products, whether warranty-covered or not. The offer began on July 28 and will remain in place until February 1, 2027.
The magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Kumamoto prefecture on July 28, leading to large-scale destruction in the region and leaving a death toll of at least 38 people, with over 8,200 people in evacuation shelters as of this writing.
The repair services will be available to residents in areas officially designated under Japan’s Disaster Relief Act, and any Nintendo products damaged by the earthquake are eligible for repair. Affected products may be sent directly to Nintendo Service Center alongside an online or written request.
Nintendo does, however, warn that it may be difficult to repair some products depending on their condition, and states systems for which repair services have been discontinued (such as the Wii U, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS) will be excluded from the offer.
Nintendo also announced on X that it would be donating 50 million yen in relief funds to the Japanese Red Cross Society. The company previously donated 50 million yen and offered similar free repair support after the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
